Challenge
- More than 40 thin pages repeating near-identical Valley of Flowers copy, competing with each other rather than with the market.
- Trek packages sat four clicks from the homepage with almost no internal links pointing at them.
- Blog posts ranked for “best time to visit” but never linked to a bookable trek.
- Heavy, uncompressed mountain photography made mobile pages slow on the connections trekkers actually use.
Strategy
- Consolidate the destination pages so each one targets a distinct trek and search intent.
- Connect guides to bookable trek pages with deliberate internal links.
- Treat mobile page speed as a conversion issue, not only a ranking one.
- Use Google Ads search-term data to decide which treks deserved new content first.
Implementation
01 Architecture rebuild
43 pages consolidated into 16 with 301 redirects, organised as Uttarakhand → trek region → trek → departure, with every trek page within three clicks of the homepage.
02 Content mapped to trek intent
Twenty-two new guides covering difficulty, permits, fitness, weather by month and Hemkund Sahib logistics, each linking to the matching trek and its departure dates.
03 Technical and structured data
Images converted to WebP with fixed dimensions, mobile LCP brought from 5.8s to 2.1s, plus Organization, TouristTrip, FAQ and breadcrumb schema.
04 Measurement
Organic enquiries tracked separately from organic sessions, so SEO was judged on enquiries and bookings rather than traffic.
Result
- Organic sessions up 212% over 12 months
- Organic enquiries per month in season: 126 (from 38)
- Trek and destination pages ranking on page one: 17
- Blended cost per booking down 24% as organic share grew
Key learning
Merging 43 thin pages into 16 strong ones produced more movement than the 22 new articles did. Deciding what to delete was the highest-value part of the project.
